He reminded the vestry that Eleanor and Jacci are responsible for bank deposits in May. We have returned $319,000 to the Wisner estate. We received a letter from the estate’s attorney reporting that we will receive $625,000 later this year. The total value of the estate is $2.3 million. A second piece of real estate in the estate has now been sold and settled. We received a special gift of $10,000 for Outreach. The 2007 audit is being completed. We need an audit committee for the 2008 audit. We will be under budget in investment income by $22,000 by the end of the year. The budget for the year is $180,000. We paid an extra $50,000 on principal. The actual deficit through March of $16,443 is $9,625 more than the budgeted deficit. Rector’s Report Fr. Tom was pleased that there are 50 to 60 people in the confirmation class. Many of the participants were confirmed. All Saints’ had the most attendees of any parish at the Cathedral for the confirmation service. Sr. Warden’s Report Advocates for Homeless Families will be here in the adult formation hour to discuss their difficult financial situation. We are working with the Frederick News-Post on an article about their situation. The discussion will be held in the Historic Church signal the sacred nature of the discussion. We will present a Stewardship message on a regular basis with a message about the time, talents and treasures we have received. Nancy and Sharon have agreed to lead that effort. The same message will be delivered in the various services. Other efforts include stories in the bulletin, boxes around the property for individuals to share their thanks, and more. The vestry discussed the timing for the mutual ministry review. It may be in May, June or August. This year it will include the vestry and staff with the goal to invite parish-wide participation in in future years. Committee Reports Personnel – Krista Romanogli has agreed to be the co chair with Judy. The committee needs more people. Budget and Finance – There is a meeting next Monday to look at the second half of the year’s budget. The committee will need to amend some of the line items. Strategic Planning – Nancy met with the committee. There is renewed energy and enthusiasm. Fr. Tom and Nancy will meet with them soon. This committee is also looking for new members. Communications – This committee is working well and trying to develop an overall plan. Stories on Nancy, Tom and in Houses of Worship listing in the paper and online. The website is a concern. It is better than it has been but needs work. The committee developed Sacred bundle for the Diocesan convention. Jacci recommended placing our brochures in area hotels. We received a letter requesting that we get involved with the Frederick County tourism bureau. Waymon passed around copies of the FNP with recent All Saints appearances. He also reported that the committee is looking at printing Saints Alive only for people who request it. The primary method of delivery will be electronic. That change will happen before the end of the year. Parish Council – That group should be convened soon. Executive Committee – No report. Stewardship – There will be a stewardship conference on June 13 at St. Johns in Ellicott City. We hope to host it at All Saints next year. Fr. Tom strongly encourages at least one person from every vestry class to attend. Investment – This committee is meeting this Saturday for their first regular meeting. They plan to review the parish’s portfolio. Buildings and grounds – This committee has been meeting. Memorials – Fr. Tom has asked several individuals to serve, but is still looking for someone to lead the committee. Options – Nancy spoke with Tom Litras. Has been sending out the booklets, but has not yet received bids. There is an alternative plan if we do not receive bids. By Laws – There are some question about who can receive communion. The by laws are probably outdated in that area. Rector’s Development – This committee meets next week. There was some discussion about the committee structure, including whether some committees should offer short-term opportunities for parishioners to serve for limited times on a project basis. Some committees communicate well by email and do not need to meet face to face to make decisions and accomplish tasks. Fr. Tom asked the youth members if they would conduct a workshop on social media, including Facebook. Summer would be a good time to hold classes. The Vestry went into executive session at 7:50. Respectfully Submitted, |
